Black Lives Matter

At Islington Giving we are committed to work for racial justice and equality and stand in solidarity with our Black and minority ethnic residents, partners and colleagues.

As much as everyone can face multiple difficulties through life, we acknowledge that BAME communities suffer added vulnerabilities caused by systemic racism.

According to the latest State of Equality Report by Islington Council, children growing in BAME households in Islington are more likely to be living in poverty in comparison to white children, and from December 2018 to November 2019, the rate of stop and searches of black people in Islington was four times higher than the rate of stop and searches of white people.

People from BAME groups are also dying disproportionately due to Covid-19: According to the Public Health England review, BAME groups have between 10% and 50% higher risk of death when compared to white people.

Black Lives Matter and at Islington Giving we will continue working closely with organisations across the borough to end injustice and change lives for good in the borough.
