Islington Giving’s Young Grant-Makers presented on inclusion in grant-making to member organisations of the Association of Charitable Foundation at a meeting of a ‘Stronger Foundations’ working group in November 2018 in Central London.
Rhiann and Brandon (pictured below) reflected on their work with the community to design, publicise, and manage the Young Grant-Makers programme since it launched in May 2018. They are two of 15 young people from Islington who have pioneered this new, inclusive approach to local funding.
Every Young Grant-Maker has been paid the London Living Wage for their time. With delegated responsibility for £80,000, the Young Grant-Makers are almost ready to announce the grant awards from the 2018 programme.
Their presence at this meeting of trusts and foundations from across the country will hopefully stimulate other innovations in inclusive grant-making. We are proud to support this leading-edge approach. Watch this space for further announcements soon.

How we help young people make the most of their free time
We work to create opportunities for young people at times that suit them. In a borough-wide conversation with 340 young people in 2016, they told us about the kinds of things they want to do in their borough. You can read more about these conversations in our report, published in January 2016, here.
