Mental Health Support – Islington Mental Health Appeal
Islington Giving is passionate about making vital mental health support accessible to those who it, and improving mental health and wellbeing is part of the work of nearly all of our local partners. For non-emergency advice – If you are concerned about your mental health, you should see your GP for advice, support or treatment. Find your nearest GP on the NHS website. For non-emergency advice and health questions, you can also phone NHS for free on 111.
For emergency advice – If you or someone you care about is experiencing a mental health crisis – you can call 020 3317 6333 any time, 24 hours a day. You may also visit the emergency mental health teams in A&E at one of University College Hospital, Whittington Hospital, and Royal Free Hospital. If you or someone you know is at immediate risk of physical harm because of a mental health concern or you do not feel you can keep yourself or someone else safe call 999 or visit your local A&E.
The Samaritans – is a listening service for people feeling suicidal, depressed or in crisis. Call 116 123 – all calls are free and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The Listening Place – Fortnightly telephone support from trained volunteers for people feeling suicidal. Phone 020 3906 7676.
Childline – if you need support as a child or young person, call 0800 1111.
Saneline – a helpline offering practical information, crisis care and emotional support to anybody affected by mental health problems. Call 0845 767 8000 – open 8.00 – 23.00, every night.
Islington Mind – from cost of living to emergency support, Islington Mind offers a range of support for those struggling with their mental health. You can contact the Crisis Team at: 020 3317 6333, and they also run an Out of Hours Crisis Café: Monday to Friday 18:00 – 22:00 and Saturday and Sunday 14:00 – 18:00. The telephone number is 020 7263 3397.
NCL Suicide Support Service – confidential support for people aged 18+ affected by suicide who live, work or study in Islington, Camden, Barnet, Enfield or Haringey. Call 07483 368 700 or email: supportaftersuicide@rethink.org. The core opening hours are Monday – Friday 9:00 – 17:00, but they can also provide support up to 20:00 if needed.

The Children’s Services Contact Team (CSCT) – is the single point of contact for all services for children, young people, and families in Islington who may need extra help and support. If you are worried about a child, please phone 020 7527 7400 or email: csctreferrals@islington.gov.uk. CSCT offers a range of support from support for children and young people who are at risk of getting involved in gangs, anti-social behaviour or crime, to family support.

Brandon Centre – a local charity that provides children and young people with the highest quality mental health support, has set up a project, Brandon Connect, to provide psychotherapy for young people aged 16 – 24, struggling with anxiety, depression, and self-harm. They currently accept referrals from those living within Camden or Islington.
Stuart Lowe Trust – a local charity set up in memory of a young Islington man who took his own life after failing to get the help he needed to cope with his mental health problems. They bring regular inspiring arts, nature, and wellbeing programmes to people in the community who are struggling with social isolation or emotional distress. Body & Soul – Growing evidence is showing how childhood trauma can impact a person’s health throughout their lifespan. Body & Soul is a therapeutic community striving to address traumas early. Their ‘whole person’ approach looks at the nuances of every child they support – discovering what happened to them in the past and what is going on for them now, before helping them chase their unique dreams and ambitions.
Mary’s Youth Club – a community hub which provides a range of inclusive youth services co-run with young people. Their holistic approach aims to help young people form and engage with supportive networks of friends and family, health and social services, businesses and organisations.
