As spiralling costs pushed more residents in Islington into devasting poverty and debt, our partners such as Help on Your Doorstep – who work with some of the most vulnerable and isolated residents in the borough – saw huge increases in the demand for their services.
In October 2022 Islington Giving launched a cost of living crisis appeal to support local people through an extremely challenging time.
The generosity of local people and businesses helped us to raise over £123,000 (including gift aid). 100% of this money was used to support local people who are struggling financially. Grants began reaching individuals and families from November 2022, helping them to pay fuel debts and buy essentials like food and warm clothes.
We have received some lovely feedback from our partner organisations who have been helping us to get the grants out to those who need them. Residents have reported that the money has not only supported them practically but has also helped to alleviate some of the heightened anxiety about paying mounting bills and debts.
It is only thanks to our amazing community that we have been able to support some of our most vulnerable neighbours during this challenging time.
