[Now closed] Apply to become a Young Grant Maker! Interview with Izzy Petriti

Izzy Petriti joined us in October 2022 as a panel member for the Young Grant Makers Programme. She started working as a Leader of the YGM Programme in August 2023, and has also previously been on the Make It Happen Panel. Here, Izzy shares more about her experience as a Young Grant Maker, and why you should consider applying.

How did you find the Young Grant Makers programme overall?

I found the Young Grant Makers’ programme informative in learning about my borough and getting more involved in youth services. It was also empowering to be able to make a big decision that would impact hundreds of young people across Islington whilst also having a lot of fun and meeting like-minded people!

What are three things you gained or learned from the programme?

I learnt to improve and utilise my decision making skills, work in a strong team environment, and gained valuable work experience.

“It was empowering to be able to make a big decision that would impact hundreds of young people” ~ Izzy Petriti

What difference do you think the awarded money will make for the organisations and for young people in Islington?

The awarded money will hopefully help organisations run amazing programmes that will help young people in a range of ways like providing mental health support and equipping them with skills to reach their full potential. I hope it will help young people be more aware of the services there are in Islington and get them more involved.

What are you most looking forward to as the new Young Grant Makers’ Lead?

I am looking forwarded to working with a passionate group of young people that I can support and motivate throughout their time in this role, and empower them to be confident and themselves. I am also looking forward to continuing working with the Islington Giving team.

“This is quite a unique opportunity for young people that you don’t see everywhere that should be seized with both hands.” ~ Izzy Petriti

Why should you apply to be a Young Grant Maker, and do you have any tips and advice on the application process?

This is quite a unique opportunity for young people that you don’t see everywhere that should be seized with both hands. It is a paid role that will: get you more involved in your borough, get you working with a new group of people, build up many of your skills in a friendly and relaxed work setting and look great on your CV!

My main tip for the application process would be to show your enthusiasm and be yourself!
