Live in Islington? Want to take an active role in providing more opportunities for Islington residents?
Islington Giving is looking for ten local residents to come together and make decisions about which local projects and services to fund. In doing so, you will be helping us provide more opportunities for people to connect, have fun, improve wellbeing and tackle isolation. We are looking for people of all ages, from 16 up. If you are interested in working with other residents from across Islington, we’d love to hear from you.
Please note that the closing date for applications is 5pm on Sunday 28th July 2024.
What’s involved?
As a grant maker, you’ll be part of a team that allocates funds to local groups and charities. The money comes from donations by local people, businesses, and other funders. Together, we’ll support diverse projects that benefit Islington residents.
Why Resident Grant Making Panels?
Islington Giving is a grant maker, which means we give out money to local groups and charities in the borough of Islington. The money we give out comes from money that we have raised through our partners which include donations from local people, other funders and businesses who are based locally, to name a few. We fund all kinds of projects which help a range of people. You can see some examples of organisations and projects we have funded here.
Since 2018, over 100 local residents have helped us distribute more than one million pounds to local organisations. Your unique life experiences complement our team’s expertise, ensuring we make the best decisions for our community. We’ve run panels for young people, parents, older residents, and carers. Now, we’re bringing together people from all these groups—and more!
Who can join?
No experience? No problem! We’re looking for residents who:
- live in Islington
- are over 16
- have a desire to effect change in their local community
- can commit to participating in the whole programme from August – November 2024
- are willing to work as part of a team to share ideas and reach a common goal.
- Have an interest in working with other residents with a range of backgrounds, ages and experiences
What will you do?
You’ll attend bi-weekly, two-hour meetings from August to November, totalling about eight meetings. During these sessions, you’ll help determine funding priorities, review applications, and decide which projects to support. You’ll also receive training on Islington Giving’s values, decision-making, unconscious bias, and more, gaining valuable skills along the way. Read our Information Pack for more details.
Practicalities
We compensate panel members at the London Living Wage (£13.15/hour). If receiving payment is not suitable for you, we can alternatively purchase an item or service to thank you for your involvement. We can also fund support for you to take part if needed, such as with childcare arrangements, respite care for a person you care for or translation/interpretation or accessible transport to name a few. If you are interested in the role but have any questions or concerns, for example about accessibility, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We are keen to ensure that we do all we can to ensure people can be involved.
Meetings take place at our offices which are close to bus routes on Upper Street and the Essex Road and we have a lift and accessible toilets.
