I am delighted to join Islington Giving as the representative of Cloudesley, of which I have been a trustee for eight years.
I was a councillor on Islington Council for 25 years before stepping down in May 2026. I spent one year as Mayor, and just over ten years on the Executive with portfolios including Public Health, Sport, and Adult Social Services. I was also Deputy Leader for seven years.
Whilst my passion is for social care – Islington was one of the first councils to pay the London Living Wage and travel time for carers under my leadership – I am also aware of the importance of education. For over a decade I was Chair of Governors of a primary school in one of the most deprived areas in Islington, and I know that support at the right time can change lives.
I was at the launch of Islington Giving in 2010, and have watched its progress over the years and, indeed, worked alongside it. I look forward now to using my experience to help Islington Giving to thrive and expand its work in reducing inequality in our Borough.
