This year marks 15 years since Islington Giving started changing lives, making a difference and spreading joy in our community.
I’m one of the many people in our community who’s been supported by Islington Giving, and that’s why I’m asking for your help today.
This time four years ago, I was feeling lonely and isolated, struggling with the daily demands of caring for my son, who has autism. It was a difficult time, and I desperately needed somewhere I could go to talk about what I was going through. That’s when I found Mother2Mother, one of the fantastic support groups funded by Islington Giving.
“I’m one of the many people in our community who’s been supported by Islington Giving, and that’s why I’m writing today to ask for your help.”
The group became my weekly anchor. To have people who genuinely understood my situation, who were nurturing, caring and understanding – it felt like a family. There was a warm, homely atmosphere. Suddenly, all these doors started to open up. I made new friends and was able to step outside my bubble and focus on something positive.
I’m now lucky enough to work for Islington Giving, so I see first-hand the difference funding makes to the community I have grown up in, and how so many people’s lives are transformed. But still, in our borough today, it’s so unjust and unfair how unequal things are.
“Shockingly, one in four of our neighbours and 38% of Islington’s children live in poverty.”
That’s why your donation today is so important. You can make a real difference to someone in your community who is struggling like I was.
Carers and mothers like Sarah are just an example of people who are helped by Islington Giving. With your continued support, it can reach even more people, fund more life-changing projects, and keep spreading joy in the community. Every donation makes a difference.
