Dear neighbour,
If you live in Islington and received your council tax bill recently, you might have noticed something from us at Islington Giving.
Inside, we shared a message about the amazing ways neighbours like you are coming together to support our community – from mentoring young people to helping neighbours access vital advice and services. It’s all about making Islington a place where everyone can live a good life.
If you haven’t had a chance to read it yet, we’d love for you to take a moment and see how, together, we can make a real difference on our doorstep.
And if you didn’t see it, you can read the letter here:
Your kindness creates real change on your doorstep
As you know, Islington is a borough of energy, diversity and compassion, and it’s these strengths – among many others – that give us our wonderful identity.
But sadly, we’re also a borough where too many of us are struggling to meet even the most basic needs. And these pressures are growing, driving deeper inequality and isolation.
Every day, Islington families have to make choices between topping up the electricity or putting food on the table.
Our community spaces, where we’ve always gone to share a laugh or a chat, are disappearing. And many people can’t access the support and advice they desperately need.
That’s why we’ve launched the Islington Neighbours Appeal. Because together, we can change this.
Spotlight on Help on Your Doorstep
“I was unable to go out alone for 19 years. Now, I wish the groups would go on longer because I never want to go home!” – Suzie, Good Neighbours Scheme
Every year we partner with hundreds of organisations to make life better for everyone in Islington. One of these partnerships is with Help on Your Doorstep, who ensure more residents get crucial support, connect with neighbours and thrive.
“Help on Your Doorstep is all about building a bridge between services and the residents who need them.
At the moment, people are really struggling with things like the cost of living, poor housing and isolation. We’re listening and designing our support around this lived reality, helping local people build networks of mutual support and connecting more residents to the advice and services they need. Or, as I like to say, helping people get back in touch with their strengths.
When we meet people where they’re at, they can find their inner strength – and that makes our community better. It’s what makes Islington feel like a place where people can belong.”
Ken Kanu, CEO of Help on Your Doorstep
Warm regards,
Tam and the Islington Giving team
