Our fifth year of Young Grant Makers has just started, with a group of young people meeting for the first time this week! While we’ll wait for updates from the panel as they begin their grant-making journey, we’d like to introduce the two amazing forces managing the programme “behind the scenes” this year, working closely with the panellists: our new YGM facilitator Alisha Pomells and Laura Guy, Islington Giving Programme Manager.

Laura joined Islington Giving in June. She has previously worked in health and social care roles and her particular interest is in co-production and systems change to work towards a more equal society. Laura co-leads our Young Grant Makers programme and our Development Partners programme which aims to improve how people is Islington experiencing domestic abuse are reached. Laura loves cooking (and eating!), singing, and her dog, Bambi (pictured)

Alisha has previously worked for various charities including Marie Curie and The British Heart Foundation. She has a particular interest in racial justice and systemic change within the charity sector. Alisha co-leads our Young Grant makers programme with Laura. Alisha loves reading horror books in her free time, singing and spending time with her daughter.

“We are so excited to have met our 12 new Young Grant Makers last week! We are officially kicking off the programme on 4th October and together we will be learning about the principles of Grant Making, discussing and identifying priorities of Young People in Islington and putting out the call in November 2022. We are looking forward to getting to know each other, learning together and ultimately to making change for Young People in Islington!”
