After previously announcing the organisations funded through the first wave of funding, we’re pleased to say that five more organisations in the borough are doing even more vital work, thanks to the Islington Giving Crisis Fund.
Wave 2 of funding (now closed) allows for more emergency applications from organisations doing essential work, but also includes funding support for any changes groups are making to what they do during the current crisis. We know that lots of organisations are working differently to continue to support residents, bringing people together online or delivering face to face support via community hubs.
Help on Your Doorstep (£20,150 awarded): Works with vulnerable and isolated people in Islington , strengthening communities to do more for themselves and enabling people to improve their life chances.
The funding to them will go towards three areas of work:
- Wellbeing calls and enquiries line for vulnerable residents.
- Volunteer coordination for telephone befriending to vulnerable Islington residents, particularly those who are self-isolating and shielding.
- Getting digital and social media support to provide a wider range of information and online services, for instance video coffee mornings.
Copenhagen Youth Project (£10,000 awarded): This group provides a safe, caring space for vulnerable young people where they can learn, develop and build a brighter future.
With the funds they’ll be able to continue providing an online Youth Club with daily challenges around sport, cooking and arts. The aim is to maintain contact with a group of young people they know need reassurance to get through this testing time. They’ll also offer support to vulnerable young people through 1 to 1 chats with three new outreach workers. They will even provide vital PPE, and link young people to more specialised services where necessary.
Healthy Minds, Healthy Bods(£4,274 awarded): A group that promotes a healthy lifestyle through access to health, fitness, budget and nutrition advice, particularly aimed at unemployed people.
With the money they’ll provide weekly mental health packs that will include video fitness sessions prepared by a qualified personal trainer, and food and exercise diaries. They’ll also provide Youtube videos on motivation and fitness.
Galbur Foundation(£3,000 awarded): A voluntary-led organisation in Islington that is devoted to empowering local young people from BAMER communities and other vulnerable groups and their families to reach their potential and make positive changes in their lives.
The money will go towards delivering food and essentials during the month of Ramadan to Muslim residents. This is particularly important for families dealing with bereavement or people affected by mental health issues.
Company three(£20 960 awarded): Provides space for young people to express themselves. During this crisis, they’ve started the Coronavirus Time Capsule, which is a weekly record of the pandemic made by teenagers. It provides space for young people to articulate their current situation, maintain relationships and engage creatively in this period. The money from the grant will support this amazing project.
We are working together with other London funders to provide coordinated funding to support groups responding to the needs of communities affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
If you are an organisation in need of support, please make sure you apply for funding.
If you are a business or an individual living or working in Islington, please consider giving to our Islington Giving Crisis Fund or sharing the information with your contacts.
