Manor Gardens is a health and wellbeing charity based in Upper Holloway. They empower people to change their lives for the better through services and activities which promote mental and physical health and wellbeing and foster a sense of belonging and connection among residents of different backgrounds.
Manor Gardens also run a Food Co-op open to the local community to access fresh, healthy food and a skills & wellbeing hub – an inclusive space where residents can gain valuable skills and build meaningful relationships in a warm and friendly environment.
At Manor Gardens, lived experience isn’t just valued – it’s what drives change, empathy, and connection across our community.
“A Place Where I Feel Safe”
When Mariam arrived in Islington as a refugee, she was isolated and struggling with anxiety. A neighbour told her about Manor Gardens’ Wellbeing Hub, and she decided to give it a try.
At first, she came just for tea and conversation — but she soon found a sense of belonging. What made the difference was the team itself, many of whom have lived experience of seeking safety, managing long-term health conditions, or rebuilding life after trauma. “They understand without me having to explain,” she says. “People listen. They don’t judge. It feels like family.”

Through the Hub, Mariam has rebuilt her confidence, joined a women’s walking group, and is now training as a wellbeing ambassador to support others who are new to the area.
Many community projects in Islington are struggling to keep their doors open. Your donations fund safe, welcoming spaces like Manor Gardens – places where people feel safe, seen, and supported. This winter, we are aiming to raise an additional £40,000 to support our community – if you are able to make a one off donation to help us reach this goal, we would be very grateful!
