Wipers Ignition Programme is their youth’s flagship employability and independence initiative, where I saw first-hand how the right support, opportunities, and encouragement can transform a young person’s confidence and future.
Young people were actively engaging with staff, exploring new ideas, and developing practical skills in a welcoming and supportive environment. What stood out most was that the programme isn’t simply about helping participants find employment; it’s about equipping them with the confidence, knowledge, and independence to build sustainable futures.
The Ignition Programme is built on the belief that every young person deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential, regardless of the barriers they may face. By combining workplace experience, employability workshops, personal mentoring, and funded driving support, the programme provides participants with the tools they need to move confidently into education, training, or employment.
One of the programme’s most distinctive features is its focus on removing practical barriers that can prevent young people from accessing opportunities. For many, learning to drive represents far more than passing a test. It is a gateway to greater independence, increased mobility, and access to careers that may otherwise be out of reach. By providing funded practical driving lessons alongside road safety support, Ignition helps participants achieve a milestone that can have a lasting impact on both their personal and professional lives.

Resources such as iPads enable participants to complete applications, access learning materials, and develop digital skills, while refreshments create a welcoming space where everyone feels comfortable and valued. These thoughtful touches demonstrate an understanding that removing even small barriers can make a significant difference to a young person’s ability to engage and succeed.
